About this role
Kairos Power is developing advanced fluoride-salt-cooled fast reactor technology. As an Operator, you will assemble, commission, and operate large-scale reactor systems and auxiliary equipment. This role begins with 2 years on-site in Albuquerque, NM (prototype testing and commissioning), with potential transition to Oak Ridge, TN for production operations.
Responsibilities
- —Assemble and install process and auxiliary equipment using heavy equipment (forklifts, telehandlers, overhead hoists)
- —Commission, operate, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment per standardized procedures
- —Perform acceptance testing (hydrostatic, pneumatic, I/O checks, electrical calibration) following equipment installation
- —Support facility operations including startup, real-time monitoring, and shutdown processes
- —Perform chemistry sampling and analysis using standardized analytical instruments
- —Monitor equipment performance by interpreting and trending process parameters; execute corrective actions
- —Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems
- —Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and execute Lockout-Tagout procedures
- —Execute hazardous operations per documented operating procedures
- —Assist engineering staff with R&D test program execution
Qualifications
- —Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, OR 2+ years hands-on experience as plant operator or technician (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, chemical, power plant, or military)
- —Ability to work on-site at Albuquerque, NM for approximately 2 years
- —Ability to transition between Kairos Power sites as operations and development needs require
- —Demonstrated ability to understand and follow technical procedures and P&IDs
- —Willingness to work with hazardous materials in PPE including full-face respirator and Tyvek suits
- —Familiarity with basic hand tools and mechanical equipment operation
- —Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical, and electrical drawings
- —Computer proficiency including spreadsheet software
- —Effective communication and collaborative teamwork skills
- —Strong problem-solving and safe work practices orientation
Desired
- —Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) systems experience
- —Hands-on plant equipment and operations experience
- —Knowledge management and technical documentation skills
- —Ability to identify process improvements and novel problem-solving approaches
Location
Primary: Albuquerque, NM (on-site, ~2 years). Secondary: Oak Ridge, TN (potential transition). Must work at heights, in confined spaces, varying temperatures, shop floor and outdoor environments. Capable of handling objects up to 50 lbs and wearing full-face respirator PPE.
