- Requirements Must be working toward a four-year Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear concentration from an ABET accredited program at a college or university Must be graduating in the fall of 2028 or later Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
About this role
The cooperate Nuclear Analysis & Fuel and Regulatory Assurance (NAFRA) department is seeking a VCU student for a Summer 2027 coop with potential to work part time in following semesters for the Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) group located at Dominion Energy's Innsbrook Technical Center in Glen Allen, VA.
Responsibilities
- Support PRA engineers in activities related to PRA model development, maintenance, and application.
- Participate in plant walkdowns as-needed to support model development.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience Professional orientation and effective interpersonal skills; effective communication skills in both written and oral forms; ability to work in teams or independently under own initiative.
- Ability to rapidly learn new concepts and maintain cognizance and control of multiple project tasks.
- Knowledge of fundamental nuclear, mechanical, and electrical theory.
- Problem-solving skills, including demonstrated ability to define problems, collect information, evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions.
- Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and standard Microsoft applications.
- Programming skills in languages such as FORTRAN or Visual Basic, or database programs such as Microsoft Access, is a plus.
- Previous exposure in probabilistic risk assessment concepts preferred.
Location, schedule, and travel
Job Conditions: Safety-sensitive position, subject to random drug testing. Qualification for unescorted access to Dominion nuclear sites.
