About this role
Trainee position at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (APS). Trainees complete formal qualification to operate mechanical and electrical equipment in auxiliary systems outside the control room, including monitoring instruments, recording data, communicating plant status to control room operators, and implementing safety procedures. Full qualification must be achieved within a specified timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Complete qualification to operate assigned equipment within specified timeframe
- Operate major and auxiliary plant equipment outside Control Room in qualified areas
- Monitor, read, and record instruments and equipment; notify Control Room Operator of anomalies
- Communicate with Control Room regarding plant status and conditions in assigned areas
- Implement station safety tagging and clearance procedures to ensure safe working conditions
- Maintain awareness of plant procedures, NRC regulations, system operation/design changes, radiation hazards, and radioactive equipment handling
- Maintain qualifications per PVNGS continuing training programs
- Support refueling and short-notice outages as required
Preferred qualifications
- Nuclear Navy Pipeline experience (6+ years)
- Nuclear Commercial Operator experience (3+ years)
- Maritime Academy Engineer background
- Engineering Bachelor's Degree
Location, schedule, and travel
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Arizona. Field/onsite work required. Subject to random Fitness For Duty Testing with reporting requirement within 60–120 minutes.
