Mechanical Operator
About this role
Mechanical Operator role at Westinghouse supporting nuclear fuel manufacturing. You'll operate production equipment (sand blasters, pellet loaders, welding systems, washers), manage fuel rod and assembly handling, perform material traceability transactions, and support quality control in a regulated manufacturing environment following strict criticality, safety, and accountability procedures.
Responsibilities
- —Operate equipment and perform manual tasks according to established procedures
- —Load fuel rods and maintain item control in ADU RODS area
- —Operate sand blaster and perform acid stripping process for IFBA
- —Remove screens from IFBA coater fixtures and load/unload pellets
- —Perform fuel rod weigh scale operations and clean fuel rod components
- —Input component data into computer system
- —Perform insert welding operations in Non-Fuel area
- —Assemble grids and perform grid cleaning operations
- —Load fuel rod magazines and operate assembly washing process
- —Load assemblies for shipment
- —Move and locate materials within work area using forklift and overhead crane
- —Perform product material traceability transactions and recordings
- —Follow accountability, criticality, safety, security and hygiene procedures
- —Perform housekeeping and routine maintenance
- —Assist other operators as instructed by department Team Manager
- —Troubleshoot problems with experienced operators
Qualifications
- —High School Diploma or GED
- —0–6 months of experience required
- —Safety-first attitude
- —Ability to read, comprehend, and perform procedure-based work
- —Mechanical aptitude
Desired
- —2+ years of manufacturing experience
Location
Onsite; involves movement between work areas, use of forklift and overhead crane, housekeeping tasks including mopping and painting.
