Chemical Operator
About this role
Chemical Operator role at Westinghouse nuclear fuel manufacturing facility. Operate specialized equipment in uranium conversion, recovery, and pellet production; maintain strict accountability for nuclear materials, safety protocols, and quality procedures per NRC and criticality requirements.
Responsibilities
- —Operate conversion equipment to package UO2 powder from bulk containers to polypacks while maintaining item control
- —Operate assay meters, metal detectors, honing booths, ultrasonic cleaning systems, parts washers, shredders, and sorting hoods in URRS (Uranium Recovery and Recycling System) operations
- —Disassemble HEPA filters; clean and re-valve UF6 cylinders
- —Receive, unpack, repackage, and ship recycled material and containers with record generation
- —Perform powder prepping, operate presses and sintering furnaces, and conduct pellet inspection in pelleting operations
- —Oxidize uranium-bearing materials in oxidation ovens
- —Clean filter presses and change cartridge and bag filters
- —Perform item control transactions, audits, and accountability procedures following criticality and security protocols
- —Move between Chemical Operations areas to meet production needs and assist other operators as directed
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Desired
2+ years of manufacturing experience; Wastewater License; safety-first attitude; ability to perform procedure-based work; mechanical aptitude; problem-solving skills
Location
Onsite; standard hourly shift work with potential movement between operational areas
