Mechanical Engineer 1
About this role
Westinghouse is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 to perform thermal-hydraulic and piping network engineering design and analysis for nuclear mega-projects and advanced reactors. You'll support the Engineering Manager of Nuclear Process & Power Conversion Systems in a hybrid role based in Rock Hill, SC, working on equipment sizing, system design, and regulatory compliance for next-generation nuclear facilities.
Responsibilities
- —Develop pump, valve, heat exchanger, HVAC, and other equipment sizing requirements for plant design or modifications
- —Identify problems and propose engineering solutions to assigned nuclear projects and tasks
- —Support senior engineering personnel in thermal-hydraulic and piping network design and analysis efforts
- —Communicate nature and status of work to technical leads, management, and regulatory bodies
- —Collaborate with construction, instrumentation & control, electrical, and operations project teams
- —Participate in customer, vendor, and regulator meetings to present technical materials and design justifications
- —Perform work within established scope, budgetary, and schedule requirements
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear)
- —Minimum 3.0 GPA
- —Experience with MathCad, MATLAB, or VBA
- —Familiarity with testing and testing analysis
- —Ability to travel
Desired
- —Experience with ASME or API standards
- —Experience with design change control or requirements management
- —Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) License
Location
Hybrid, 2 days/week on-site at Rock Hill, SC facility; travel required; no relocation assistance provided
