Required qualifications

High school education or equivalent; successfully pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selections System (MASS); satisfactory performance and experience in lower classification with successful completion of Helper-Mechanical assigned units of instruction, or equivalent practical experience and training; valid motor vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain unescorted site access to SSES; ability to interpret sketches, diagrams, and specifications; working knowledge of tools and materials used in mechanical and structural work; physical strength and endurance to perform mechanical duties; ability to adhere to applicable work standards; ability to obtain Asbestos Worker license.

About this role

Mechanic role at a nuclear generating station responsible for disassembly, repair, overhaul, and installation of mechanical equipment including generators, compressors, pumps, and turbines. Work involves skilled machining, welding, rigging, heavy equipment operation, and structural installation in a nuclear facility environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform disassembly, reassembly, overhaul, repair, testing, adjusting, replacing and cleaning of mechanical equipment such as generators, compressors, fans, pumps, valves, and combustion turbines
  • Install and align pumps, fans, and auxiliary equipment; perform layout for foundations, trenching, and fencing
  • Perform machining operations including dressing and threading bolts, truing seats and discs, making valve stems, and tube/pipe end preps using fabrication shop equipment (shears, punch presses, Tri-tool)
  • Operate construction equipment including front end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, hydraulic cranes (up to but not including 80 ton), gantry cranes, and aerial devices up to 175' height
  • Perform structural and mechanical welding; perform rigging operations including moving, placing, hanging, and erecting structures, transformers, and machinery
  • Layout, fabricate, and install thermal insulation and penetration seals; install and maintain conduit and pipe systems for air, water, steam, oil, electric, and gas lines
  • Perform carpentry, concrete, and excavating work; work from hanging scaffolds, spiders, and similar support devices at any height
  • Direct other employees on assigned tasks

Location, schedule, and travel

Nuclear generating station (Susquehanna Steam Electric Station); work at heights including from hanging scaffolds and aerial devices; various shift patterns; no remote work.
