Required qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience in radiological protection and/or chemistry
- 3+ years of nuclear power plant experience
- 1+ years of supervisor or management experience
- Completion of DOM-QA-1 Nuclear Facility Quality Assurance Program Description sections 2.5 and Appendix C
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading and directing implementation of Radiation Protection programs
- Strong communication skills with managers and direct reports
- Proven ability to provide clear direction and expectations
- Demonstrated presentation skills to large groups
- Strong interpersonal skills to work across multiple groups
- Proven ability to foster teamwork and motivate organizations with limited direction
- Ability to realign resources to meet critical needs
- Demonstrated capability to address performance shortfalls
- Broad knowledge of programs and functions across nuclear power stations
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Radiation Science, or related physical science
- During nuclear power plant experience: participation in supervisory/management activities including 1 month routine refueling outage and 2 months operation above 20% power
- 3+ years of nuclear power plant experience at level requiring policy, planning, and decision-making related to radiological protection program aspects
About this role
Lead the Radiological Protection & Chemistry team at Millstone Power Station as a senior manager responsible for radiation protection programs, chemistry controls, and radioactive waste management. Ensure safe station operations by protecting personnel and the environment from radiological hazards while managing department budgets, team performance, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level supervision of Radiological Protection programs, Radiation Protection & Chemistry controls, and radioactive waste management
- Plan and direct team deliverables and priorities to achieve operational performance goals
- Ensure team members are properly trained, qualified, and equipped to execute assigned work
- Evaluate effectiveness of radiological protection and chemistry program elements and identify performance weaknesses
- Analyze trends in radiological and chemical work performance to develop action plans for improvement
- Develop and implement policy changes as appropriate
- Monitor effectiveness of chemistry controls to protect vital equipment
- Manage radioactive waste processing and disposal programs to minimize effluent releases and land burial
- Review causes and corrective actions for radiological and chemical incidents to prevent recurrence
- Develop and manage department budgets and operational goals
- Perform supervisory duties including employee performance reviews, coaching, and corrective actions
- Establish partnerships with other departments across the station
- Identify strategic risks related to regulatory environment changes
- May be selected to act as site Radiation Protection Manager (RPM)
Preferred qualifications
- National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) or Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification
- Current or previous Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license
- 3+ years of experience in two or more functional areas of radiological protection
