Maintenance Welder
About this role
Maintenance Welder in the Mobile Turbine/Rotating Department at Constellation Energy, performing welding and mechanical maintenance on steam/gas turbines, reactor feed pump turbines (RFPT), pumps, gearboxes, and balance-of-plant equipment across nuclear facilities. This role requires nuclear plant access, radiation protection qualifications, and the ability to work safely in radioactive and high-temperature environments.
Responsibilities
- —Perform fitting and welding tasks on turbines, pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, boilers, pipe systems, valves, and rotating equipment; execute disassembly, part repair/replacement, and assembly per work packages
- —Demonstrate maintenance expertise on steam/gas turbines, turbine valves, reactor feed pump turbines (RFPT), terry turbines, and balance-of-plant systems; perform alignment on rotating equipment
- —Review technical manuals and power plant prints; recommend procedure revisions and support development of troubleshooting and repair plans
- —Coordinate with plant personnel, work groups, and vendors on equipment maintenance; provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and engineering staff
- —Report unsafe conditions, participate in corrective action programs, and perform verification checks on maintenance items
- —Maintain nuclear qualifications and Radiation Protection Qualification; work safely in radiological controlled areas and confined spaces
Qualifications
- —Associate's Degree in Power Plant Technology/Engineering Technology or High School Diploma + 12 months trade/technical experience in Power Plant Technology, OR Vocational Technical Diploma + 6 months shop experience
- —Pass MASS test and complete nuclear plant training requirements
- —Valid driver's license with insured vehicle; ability to lift minimum 50 lbs
- —Obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and Radiation Protection Qualification
- —Ability to work in power plant environment: climbing, high elevations on ladders/scaffolds, confined spaces, heat/dust/smoke/noise exposure, shift work/weekends
- —Basic computer skills and strong oral/written communication
Location
80%+ travel within nuclear facilities; shift work and weekends required; work at height, in confined spaces, and in radioactive environments
