Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 7 years of discipline-related engineering experience
  • 3 years in the nuclear industry
  • 3 years of technical project execution and/or field installation experience as a field engineer or similar role in the nuclear industry
  • Previous experience in an engineering, procurement and operations environment in the nuclear industry
  • Experience with construction methods and processes
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, practice and techniques for designing structures, piping, and supports
  • Knowledge of rigging and handling practices, related standards, regulations, codes and directives
  • Knowledge of construction codes as they apply in the nuclear industry
  • OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent safety certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at a US Nuclear facility
  • Ability to pass a Westinghouse physical exam, including spirometer test for respirator capability

About this role

Long-term contract Field Mechanical Engineer supporting LEU+ (Low Enriched Uranium+) construction and equipment installation at a nuclear facility in Columbia, SC. Represent engineering in the field, oversee mechanical construction progress, coordinate inspections, and resolve technical issues while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Represent LEU+ Engineering in the field for mechanical construction and equipment installations
  • Oversee mechanical construction and equipment installation progress, interpreting drawings and collaborating with the team
  • Coordinate mechanical construction interfaces and inspection activities, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Conduct regular jobsite walk-downs to ensure compliance with engineering requirements
  • Resolve field issues, process change orders, and address technical issues during construction and installation
  • Participate in design reviews and corrective action activities
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on construction activities and progress
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records including progress reports, inspection reports, and as-built documentation
  • Enforce safety protocols and address potential hazards in the field
  • Communicate with internal groups, customers, and vendors to complete work assignments
  • Approve subcontractor work plans and work packages
  • Participate in regular jobsite project meetings and inspections as directed by the Construction Superintendent and Project Engineer

Location, schedule, and travel

Onsite in Columbia, SC. Must be able to obtain and maintain US Nuclear facility security clearance.
