Generation Plant Engineer I / II
About this role
Arizona Public Service (APS) is hiring Generation Plant Engineers I/II for a structured rotational development program across nuclear and fossil generation facilities. You will rotate through Plant Engineering, Fleet Support Engineering, Renewable Generation Engineering, and Generation Capital Projects, with conversion to a permanent engineering role upon successful completion. This role supports design, modification, and implementation of critical systems in active power generation plants.
Responsibilities
- —Assist in technical analysis, data preparation, trend analyses, and technology assessments for plant systems and equipment
- —Prepare engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, and documentation (drawings, sketches, purchase orders)
- —Ensure engineering analyses and designs meet technical soundness, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- —Interface with internal customers and departments to align project objectives with scope, budget, and schedule
- —Provide technical and field support; identify system deficiencies and develop corrective action plans
- —Perform periodic testing and analysis of system data to minimize equipment failures and optimize performance
- —Contribute to business case preparation and operational plans for project implementation
- —Present design results, studies, and technical findings to management, colleagues, and stakeholders
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Environmental, Nuclear, Electronics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science/Metallurgy, or Structural) from ABET-accredited, IEA-recognized, or ABET MRA-recognized institution
- —For Engineer II position: two (2) years of engineering-related work experience
Desired
- —Experience in nuclear, fossil, or other power generation plant environments
- —Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and safety standards relevant to power generation
- —Problem analysis and resolution techniques
- —Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to real-world operational challenges
- —Willingness to work shifts and in dynamic plant environments
Location
Multiple locations within APS service territory; hiring across Mechanical, Electrical, Controls/Instrumentation, Civil, Environmental, and Chemical engineering disciplines. Potential shift work and field work required; multidisciplinary team collaboration essential.
