About this role
TerraPower seeks a Fuel Handling Resident Engineer to oversee and coordinate fuel handling equipment design and supplier delivery for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. You will provide on-site oversight of Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, Alabama, ensuring nuclear fuel handling systems meet design requirements through final delivery.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of supplier design and delivery of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design and delivery to site
- Support design, fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment
- Coordinate and oversee design and fabrication work by suppliers, including regular on-site support at Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville, AL
- Develop system and equipment design products such as 3D CAD models, calculations, requirements, system design descriptions, and interface control documents
- Identify and ensure effective application of design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, and BTH-1, and regulatory requirements
- Present designs and participate in design reviews
- Propose and define testing programs, provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluate test results, and report findings
Preferred qualifications
- Nuclear industry experience working under an ASME NQA-1 quality program
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III or Section VIII
- M.S. or Doctorate degree (credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively)
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site in Huntsville, Alabama with regular supplier oversight; 0–10% travel
