Facilities Maintenance Technician
About this role
Perform general mechanical maintenance on power plant equipment at a nuclear facility, including pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, pipe systems, and valves. This role is available at Associate, Mid-level, or Senior levels and supports a culture of continuous improvement. You will work in a nuclear power plant environment with potential radiation exposure and must maintain nuclear facility access and radiation protection qualifications.
Responsibilities
- —Perform maintenance and repair work on plant equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, pipe systems, valves and limit torque operators, including disassembly, part repair or replacement, and assembly
- —Demonstrate strong maintenance skills on various pumps, valves, and balance of plant (BOP) equipment using correct tools and equipment including rigging, forklifts and cranes
- —Interpret and understand power plant prints and execute assigned work packages safely and efficiently under direction of Maintenance Management
- —Provide technical support to plant operations, maintenance staff and engineering to the level of training received
- —Perform verification checks on maintenance items and work on cross-functional teams on major projects
- —Adhere to established maintenance standards and practices, report unsafe conditions, and utilize corrective action programs
- —Participate in training and reinforce standards within the nuclear facility environment
Qualifications
- —Associate's Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics OR High School Diploma with minimum 12 months trade/technical experience in Power Plant Technology or relevant field OR Vocational Technical High School diploma with 6 months shop experience
- —Successfully complete training requirements and time-in-job requirements including passing the MASS test
- —Valid driver's license and access to insured vehicle
- —Ability to obtain unescorted nuclear plant access and maintain nuclear qualifications per facility-specific training program
- —Ability to perform tasks in radiological controlled areas and maintain Radiation Protection Qualification and training, including respirator qualifications as needed
- —Ability to work in power plant environment including climbing, walking long distances, exposure to heat, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise, confined spaces, and high elevations on ladders and scaffolds
- —Ability to lift minimum 50 pounds
- —Willingness to work shift work or weekends as required
- —Basic computer skills and good oral and written communication skills
Location
Onsite at nuclear power plant facility. Shift work or weekends required; up to 20% travel. Work environment includes exposure to high elevations, confined spaces, radiation, heat, noise, and dust.
