About this role

Lead a fabrication team at Oklo, a clean energy startup developing advanced fission reactors. You'll oversee fabrication, machining, and welding operations for nuclear-grade components—managing team, equipment, and quality control while collaborating with engineering to deliver parts meeting strict nuclear specifications and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of fabricators, providing guidance, support, and direction
  • Collaborate with engineering to understand design specifications and align fabrication processes with nuclear requirements
  • Develop work schedules, assign tasks based on priorities and deadlines
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure fabricated products meet nuclear specifications
  • Coordinate with production planning teams to schedule fabrication activities supporting production timelines
  • Oversee maintenance and operation of fabrication equipment; schedule regular maintenance and address issues
  • Manage inventory of raw materials and coordinate with procurement for timely availability
  • Oversee site machining capabilities and partner with Lead Machinist to ensure on-time delivery and QA standards
  • Oversee plant fabrication and welding capabilities; coordinate outsourced welding/fabrication support as needed
  • Enforce safety protocols and nuclear compliance with NRC and ASME standards; conduct regular safety training
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
  • Train team members in fabrication techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of fabrication processes, quality control checks, and production outputs
  • Facilitate communication within fabrication team and across departments
  • Address fabrication challenges and collaborate with team on solutions
  • Optimize fabrication costs through efficient resource management
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback

Preferred qualifications

  • Certified Radiographic Interpreter (CRI)
  • Certified Resistance Welding Technician (CRWT)
  • Certified Welding Engineer (CWE)
  • Specialized welding-process certifications
  • Demonstrated track record of building out fabrication capabilities within an organization
  • Ability to build and inspire a technical team over time
  • Willingness to develop plans from first-principles approach
  • Passion for clean energy and advanced fission
  • Ability to learn quickly and think creatively
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment
  • Propensity for proposing novel, well-reasoned technical solutions

Location, schedule, and travel

Santa Clara, CA headquarters; remote employees required to travel to HQ twice per quarter for meetings, off-sites, and company events; first two weeks of onboarding requires on-site presence.
