Data Historian Specialist II/III - Engineering Technical Specialist
About this role
Dominion Energy seeks a Data Historian Specialist II/III to lead the migration and optimization of time-series data platforms supporting electric transmission and distribution operations. This role bridges real-world SCADA and Synchrophasor data with business intelligence systems, managing vendor partnerships and identifying high-impact analytical use cases across the nuclear and conventional generation fleet.
Responsibilities
- —Manage vendor relationships and system integrators to develop project requirements and ensure analytical outputs meet business objectives
- —Oversee technical project management including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking, and oversight
- —Identify and develop new use cases across the organization to apply time-series data for analysis and decision-making
- —Ensure uptime and proper operation of current PI system while aligning to requirements of future-state data historian platform
- —Explore new techniques and features to model time-series and asset data with current and future data historian systems
- —Leverage native capabilities and/or custom development to improve functionality for end users
- —Provide business requirements guidance to IT teams to deliver appropriate core capabilities
- —Devise new approaches to complex problems and develop engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design standards
Qualifications
- —For Specialist II: 2+ years relevant experience in data historian management and/or power systems
- —For Specialist III: 5-6+ years relevant experience with demonstrated competencies in time-series data management and/or power systems
- —In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and practices
- —Ability to apply engineering theories to complex problems
- —Effective decision-making, organization, and problem-solving skills
- —Ability to communicate effectively, build relationships, and operate independently
- —Strong oral, written, and graphical communication skills including technical writing
- —Experience implementing technology within an engineering field
- —Understanding of AVEVA PI technology features (PI Data Archive, PI SDK, PI AF SDK, PI system administrator, Visual Studio .NET) or equivalent time-series data management experience
Desired
- —Knowledge of basic electric power concepts including transmission and distribution, power flow, distributed generation, and line protection
- —Professional training or demonstrated history in power systems
- —Data analysis skills with history of interrogating data to produce insightful outputs
- —Proficiency in analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment, and programs
- —Military service background (E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 ranks)
Location
Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days teleworking
