Control Room Supervisor In-Training - Monticello, MN
About this role
In-training role at Xcel Energy's Monticello nuclear generating station (BWR, ~1,100 MW). Prepare for Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) licensing through structured training program. Successfully complete classroom instruction, hands-on simulator training, and NRC-administered licensing exams to qualify as a licensed control room supervisor overseeing daily reactor operations, safety compliance, and shift personnel.
Responsibilities
- —Complete Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) training curriculum and pass all NRC licensing exams
- —Learn and perform control room oversight including reactor startup/shutdown, power changes, and emergency procedures in compliance with 10 CFR 50, technical specifications, and company operating procedures
- —Supervise Control Room Operators and Auxiliary Operators; evaluate competency and conduct on-the-job training
- —Investigate operational anomalies and equipment issues; assess safety impact and coordinate corrective actions
- —Perform shift administrative functions: issue maintenance work requests, maintain required plant logs, and coordinate activities with maintenance/chemistry teams
- —Gain proficiency with plant systems, instrumentation, and computerized control systems
Qualifications
Required: One of the following— (1) Active Reactor Operator (RO) for 12+ months at Monticello or Prairie Island; (2) Active RO or Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) for 12+ months at comparable commercial power reactor; (3) Active RO or SRO for 18+ months at non-comparable commercial power reactor; (4) Military reactor operator experience (12–27 months depending on facility type); OR (5) BS in engineering, engineering technology, or related science with 18+ months nuclear industry experience at comparable facility or 27+ months at non-comparable facility; OR (6) Non-traditional degree with 36+ months nuclear experience. Must be available to start May 2027 or sooner.
Desired
Knowledge of reactor theory, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, 10 CFR Part 50, and ASME Code Section XI. Prior supervisory or leadership experience in technical operations.
Location
Monticello, MN. Full-time, 40 hours/week onsite. Monticello Generating Station is a single-unit BWR located ~40 miles northwest of Minneapolis.
