Construction Equipment Specialist
About this role
Maintain and repair heavy construction equipment at nuclear power stations, including hydraulic cranes and automotive/diesel equipment. This role requires specialized certifications and a strong understanding of equipment mechanics and preventive maintenance protocols. You'll work in a safety-critical nuclear environment, managing fleet maintenance through the M5 program and adhering to Virginia Power Administrative Procedures.
Responsibilities
- —Evaluate condition of heavy construction equipment and perform specialized repairs
- —Determine preventive maintenance needs by troubleshooting and testing equipment
- —Perform repair work on all construction equipment types (light and heavy)
- —Prepare and maintain service reports for all repairs
- —Perform duties of automotive and equipment mechanic for gas and diesel equipment
- —Perform parts inventory in accordance with the M5 program
- —Log and track vehicle repairs and preventive measures in the M5 program
- —Implement periodic maintenance on station fleet per Virginia Power Administrative Procedure 0202
- —Interpret and explain construction equipment technical information
Qualifications
- —5+ years of directly related experience in construction equipment maintenance
- —High school diploma or GED
- —Commercial driver's license (Class B) with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements
- —Virginia state vehicle safety inspector certification
- —ANSI B30.5 mobile crane inspection certification (must obtain within one year)
- —DOT class B license (must obtain within one year)
- —In-depth knowledge of hydraulics and equipment operations
- —Computer skills and ability to use M5 program
- —Knowledge of vehicle and fleet specifications and maintenance policies
- —Strong verbal and written communication skills
- —Ability to obtain and maintain a Nuclear Security Clearance
- —Ability to pass plant access and radiological worker testing
Desired
- —ASE certified mechanic
Location
Onsite at nuclear power station; exposed to cold, fumes, heat, and loud noise 76-100% of the time; frequent outdoor work and machinery operation.
