Required qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in power generation, industrial chemistry, or regulated environment
- In-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry principles, laboratory concepts, and laboratory techniques

- Demonstrated ability to independently review, interpret, and trend chemistry and corrosion data

About this role
Advanced technical chemist supporting Chesterfield Power Station (nuclear) operations with analytical chemistry expertise in water, fuel, chemical, and environmental testing. Serves as subject-matter resource for interpreting chemistry data, identifying trends, and recommending corrective actions to maintain plant reliability and NRC regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced analytical chemistry support for water, fuel, chemical, and environmental samples across power station operations
- Review, evaluate, and trend chemistry, corrosion, and environmental data to assess system health and identify emerging issues
- Develop, implement, and maintain station chemistry programs to meet operational objectives and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate, select, and improve laboratory methods, techniques, and analytical instrumentation
- Perform calibration, validation, and troubleshooting of advanced laboratory and online analytical equipment
- Maintain chemistry databases, ensure data quality and integrity, and support laboratory quality control programs and regulatory inspections
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to lower-level staff and plant personnel
- Prepare technical reports and data visualizations for management, translating complex chemistry results into actionable insights
- Conduct special projects and investigations in support of station management and continuous improvement
- Apply sound technical judgment to distinguish normal process variability from conditions requiring investigation or action
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related discipline
- Ability to provide technical leadership, guidance, and informal mentoring within team environment
- Demonstrated ownership of chemistry programs, data quality, and follow-up actions
- Willingness to support emergent issues, special projects, or off-hours consultation as needed
Location, schedule, and travel
Stationed at Chesterfield Power Station (Virginia); up to 25% travel; occasional travel between Chesterfield and Clover Power Station; exposure to dust, grease, oil, fumes, loud noise, energized wires 76-100%; standing for prolonged periods; office and industrial plant environments.
