Four-year bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or related applied science from ABET accredited, IEA recognized, or ABET MRA institution. Engineer III requires 5+ years of engineering-related experience; Engineer Senior requires 8+ years. Background in mechanical systems with hands-on experience with cooling water systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and piping infrastructure.

Balance of Plant Engineer (III/Senior) role at Arizona's largest utility, overseeing mechanical system health, reliability, and longevity with specific focus on cooling water systems, heat exchangers, pumps, and piping infrastructure. You will troubleshoot critical assets, support planned and forced outages, drive long-term reliability improvements, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee performance, reliability, and longevity of plant mechanical systems with focus on water and cooling infrastructure
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve mechanical issues across plant assets to minimize downtime and maintain safe operations
  • Provide technical engineering support for planned and forced outages, ensuring smooth execution and quick recovery
  • Develop and maintain strategic maintenance and outage plans supporting equipment life-cycle strategies and resource forecasting
  • Execute or review minor plant design changes and assess EPC contractor designs for accuracy, compliance, and efficiency
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, environmental, and site management teams to align engineering recommendations with plant priorities
  • Take ownership of engineering decisions and provide occasional mentorship to junior engineers
  • Maintain detailed engineering records, reports, and assessments to support system diagnostics, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Prepare engineering plans, designs, analyses, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reviews complying with design and regulatory requirements
  • Interface with customers and departments to ensure project objectives, scope, budget, and schedule alignment

Preferred qualifications

Problem analysis and resolution techniques; knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods and safety standards in engineering discipline; experience in the utility industry; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Location, schedule, and travel

Occasional shift work required to support critical maintenance during outages.
