Auxiliary Operator
About this role
Entry-level Auxiliary Operator role at a Constellation nuclear power station. You will monitor, control, and operate nuclear reactor and auxiliary systems from the control room, supporting licensed operators in maintaining safe, reliable plant operations. This is a shift-based position ideal for candidates with technical backgrounds seeking to launch a career in nuclear energy operations and potentially advance to Licensed Operator certification.
Responsibilities
- —Start, stop, control and monitor nuclear reactor and auxiliary reactor systems as required for plant operations, including manual control of equipment as conditions warrant
- —Start, stop, control and monitor steam turbine, main generator and auxiliary turbine generating equipment to maintain maximum station capability
- —Start, stop, adjust, test and operate pumps, valves, switchgear, controls and other system components as directed
- —Monitor recorders and indicators within the control room for nuclear and turbine generator systems to ensure operation within prescribed limits
- —Obtain overview data and perform calculations as required by procedure
- —Respond to plant indicators and alarms in accordance with plant procedures and identify emergency conditions
- —Perform operations in accordance with administrative procedures and NRC license requirements, including shift turnovers and log maintenance
- —Respond to and mitigate consequences of plant transients
- —Maintain thorough familiarity with emergency operating procedures and abnormal operating event procedures
- —Participate as member of station fire brigade and function as fire brigade leader as required
- —Assist shift supervision in directing and coordinating personnel assigned to station operations
- —Identify and correct deficient conditions through the station Corrective Action program
- —Initiate Emergency Plan in accordance with implementing procedures
- —Implement tagging and system out-of-service requests, including directing others to realign valves and rack out breakers
- —Manipulate controls and observe nuclear and radiation monitoring instruments during reactor refueling operations
- —Operate station communications equipment as required
Qualifications
- —High School diploma or GED
- —Pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST)
- —Ability to receive unescorted nuclear access as a member of a critical group
- —At least 1 year of technical experience in power production, petrochemical or industrial process plants (operational, maintenance, design, or training activities), OR operation and maintenance of equipment such as HVAC, electrical and maintenance work
- —OR 2 years of experience in operations or maintenance of a non-generating nuclear power facility (Navy Nuclear operations/maintenance or DOE facility experience)
- —OR Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related science program
- —OR Associates of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology or related science program
- —OR 43 credit hours of post-secondary education with at least 75% (8 courses or 32 hours) in advanced math, physics, chemistry and/or engineering/engineering technology
- —Successfully complete License Medical Screening and Fire Brigade Screening prior to entry into Non-Licensed Operator Training Program
Location
Full-time shift work, plant-based operations. Start date: August 2026. Starting pay rate: $48.83/hr.
