Associate - Staff Engineer - Secondary Systems Engineering Surry
About this role
Associate to Staff-level engineer for Secondary Systems Engineering at Surry Power Station, a dual-unit PWR facility. Responsible for developing monitoring and reliability improvement plans, performing causal evaluations, and providing technical support to ensure safe and reliable operation of assigned secondary-side nuclear systems including steam generators, condensers, and feedwater systems.
Responsibilities
- —Develop and implement trending and monitoring plans to ensure system and component health
- —Develop short- and long-term plans to improve system and component reliability
- —Perform causal evaluations and root cause determinations of equipment failures on assigned systems
- —Develop engineering technical evaluations supporting plant operation and maintain technical basis for preventative maintenance requirements
- —Monitor assigned systems through performance data trending and thermal performance evaluation to ensure safe, reliable performance
- —Provide in-field technical and engineering support to Maintenance and Operations teams, including on-call emergency support and troubleshooting
- —Develop regular Maintenance Rule reports per 10 CFR 50.65 and evaluate industry Operating Experience to identify needed system changes
- —Support scheduled refueling outages and planned/unplanned unit shutdowns; provide cost analysis and upgrade recommendations for management review
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited or equivalent). Experience requirement depends on level: Associate Engineer (less than 2 years), Engineer (2+ years), Senior Engineer (5+ years), or Staff Engineer (8+ years). Minimum 1 year of nuclear power experience required. Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles; strong oral and written communication skills including technical writing; proficiency with engineering software (Matlab, Excel); ability to interpret codes, regulations, and industry practices; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; proven decision-making skills; strong planning, organizational, and project management skills; ability to work independently and in team environments.
Desired
Valid U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license; strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead; military service background (E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 ranks).
Location
Surry Power Station, Virginia. Extended hours required for outages and unplanned shutdowns. On-call support including emergency callouts.
