Required qualifications
Four-year engineering degree from ABET-accredited program. Experience requirement varies by level: 0–2 years (Associate), 2+ years (Engineer), 5+ years (Senior Engineer), or 8+ years (Staff Engineer). Knowledge of nuclear, mechanical, and electrical theory; PWR theory, design, systems, and operation. Ability to define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, and develop solutions in time-critical environments. Professional orientation with strong leadership and written/oral communication. Ability to work independently and in teams. Proficiency with personal computers, workstations, Microsoft applications, and Linux. Project management skills and demonstrated personal ownership. Physical ability to hoist, lift, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, maintain awkward positions, stand for prolonged periods, and enter confined spaces per safety procedures.
About this role
Join Dominion Energy's Nuclear Safety Analysis team to lead full-scope in-house safety analyses supporting safe operation of pressurized water reactors (PWRs). This role involves reactor transient analyses, containment response modeling, fuel reload evaluations, 10 CFR 50.59 compliance, and regulatory support with long-term job security through 2060. Multiple career levels available (Associate through Staff Engineer).
Responsibilities
- Modify and develop safety analyses supporting plant design changes, fuel changes, and operational modifications
- Establish and communicate bounding conditions of safe operation for reactor core, coolant system, containment, and engineered safeguards systems
- Evaluate as-found plant conditions using thermal-hydraulic and radiological models; provide operability determinations and restoration recommendations
- Prepare and execute 10 CFR 50.59 screens and evaluations for plant, procedure, and safety analysis changes
- Perform reactor system transient analyses, containment response analyses, and vendor Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) analyses
- Support fuel reload analyses and radiological consequences analyses
- Develop emergency procedure setpoints and support emergency response activities
- Support SMR technology deployment including safety analysis development and licensing basis establishment
- Participate in training and continuous improvement activities
Preferred qualifications
Four-year degree in Nuclear Engineering. Advanced thermal-hydraulic modeling and analysis skills. Experience with nuclear application codes (RETRAN, RELAP, GOTHIC, VIPRE). Knowledge and experience with radiological consequences analysis codes (RADTRAD, ORIGEN). Knowledge of nuclear regulations, regulatory processes, and 10 CFR 50.59 experience. Familiarity with NSSS vendor analytical methods and safety analysis processes. Experience with nuclear plant design basis accidents.
