Required qualifications
Associate's degree OR high school diploma/GED; 6 years minimum related work experience (or 8 years if no degree); NDE Level III certification; proficient practical background as NDE Level III in certification, testing, and accredited NDE training; proficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology; working knowledge of QA programs and related documents; demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; planning and organizational skills; knowledge of ASTM, ANSI, ASNT, and ASME codes; experience reading and interpreting procedures, drawings, specifications, and codes; experience developing, qualifying, and approving NDE procedures and techniques; experience training, examining, and certifying NDE personnel; experience interpreting examination results.
About this role
Senior NDE Technical Support Specialist at Duke's McGuire Island nuclear facility. Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and oversight of NDE operations including procedure development, Level III inspections, technician certification, and vendor management. Maintains Level III certification with minimum 60% field oversight responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Establish and approve NDE techniques, procedures, and test methods in compliance with ASME, ASTM, ANSI, and ASNT codes
- Mentor and provide oversight to NDE Technical Support Specialists and NDE technicians performing inspection activities
- Develop and maintain NDE Implementation Level documents per Nuclear Policy Manual and Code of Federal Regulations
- Conduct Level III reviews of completed nuclear inspection records within certified NDE disciplines
- Prepare, maintain, and review NDE certifications; manage IDDEAL CERTWORKS system
- Develop, approve, and deliver NDE training; conduct testing and certification of NDE examiners
- Oversee NDE training and certification of Duke Nuclear QA/QC/NDE technicians
- Identify and enter problems into corrective action process
- Interface with NOS, NRC, QC/NDE inspectors, engineers, auditors, and code committees
- Conduct in-field and vendor off-site observations; provide vendor oversight and approval
- Perform problem resolution and explore efficiency improvements through internal assessments and external benchmarking
Preferred qualifications
Nuclear experienced VT Level III certification; Bachelor's degree; 10 years minimum related work experience; experience with IDDEAL CERTWORKS; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Location, schedule, and travel
McGuire Island. Routine on-system travel to Duke nuclear sites and occasional off-system travel to industry meetings, seminars, and manufacturer oversight visits. Minimum 60% of time in field oversight.
