Sr. NDE Technical Support Specialist - NDE Level III (McGuire Island)
About this role
Sr. NDE Technical Support Specialist - NDE Level III at Duke Energy's McGuire site. Establish and approve NDE techniques and procedures per ASME/ANSI/ASTM standards; mentor NDE technicians; develop and deliver NDE training and certifications; conduct Level III reviews of inspection records; manage certifications via IDDEAL CERTWORKS; ensure compliance with Nuclear Policy Manual and NRC requirements. Minimum 60% of time in field oversight of inspections and NDE personnel.
Responsibilities
- —Establish and approve NDE techniques, procedures, and test methods in accordance with ASME, ANSI, ASTM, and Code of Federal Regulations
- —Mentor and provide oversight to NDE Technical Support Specialists and NDE Technicians; conduct Level III reviews of completed nuclear inspection records
- —Develop, approve, and deliver NDE training; conduct testing and certification of NDE examiners including exam writing
- —Interpret and evaluate NDE results against existing codes, standards, and specifications
- —Manage NDE certifications using IDDEAL CERTWORKS and maintain compliance documentation per Nuclear Policy Manual
- —Provide oversight and approval of assigned NDE vendors and vendor Level IIIs; conduct in-field and off-site observations
- —Interface with NOS, NRC, QC/NDE inspectors, engineers, auditors, and code committees
- —Identify problems and enter corrective actions into CAP; explore efficiency improvements through assessments and benchmarking
Qualifications
Associate's degree or High School/GED plus 6 years minimum related work experience (8 years if GED); Active NDE Level III certification in applicable disciplines; Proficient practical background as NDE Level III in certification, testing, and accredited NDE training; Proficient knowledge of applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology; Working knowledge of QA program and related documents; Knowledge of ASTM, ANSI, ASNT, and ASME codes; Ability to read and interpret procedures, drawings, specifications, and codes; Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Planning and organizational skills.
Desired
Bachelor's degree; 10 years minimum related work experience; Experience with IDDEAL CERTWORKS; Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Experience developing, qualifying, and approving NDE procedures and techniques; Experience training, examining, and certifying NDE personnel; Experience interpreting examination results; Experience advising on NDE methods, techniques, and new technology.
Location
McGuire Island site; routine on-system travel to Duke nuclear sites and occasional off-system travel to industry meetings, seminars, and manufacturer oversight visits.
