About this role

Oklo is seeking a Shielding Analysis Engineer to define, develop, and execute radiation shielding and transport analyses supporting reactor design, plant layout, and safety assurance. This role involves collaborating with design teams to establish shielding requirements, develop source term and activation models, and conduct dose assessments using Monte Carlo and deterministic methods.

Responsibilities

—Perform radiation transport analysis and dose assessment using Monte Carlo codes (MCNP, SCALE, OpenMC, Serpent) for reactor shielding design
—Conduct source term, activation, streaming, skyshine, and dose-rate analyses using appropriate Monte Carlo and deterministic methods
—Support verification and validation activities including validation against experiments, benchmarks, and operational radiation measurements
—Collaborate with design teams to capture requirements, establish scope of shielding evaluations, and implement shielding models
—Monitor and evaluate radiation shielding, transport, and fast reactor core design work performed internationally, including benchmark calculations
—Provide technical feedback to iterating design teams
—Document work and write technical reports using modern tools and techniques

Qualifications

—Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as nuclear engineering
—Experience in reactor design, radiation transport, shielding analysis, or radiation protection
—Fluency with Python
—Proficiency with high performance computing systems

Desired

—Master's or PhD in nuclear engineering or related field
—Experience with fast reactor design, shielding design, or radiation protection analysis
—Proficiency with radiation transport tools (MCNP, SCALE, OpenMC, Serpent)
—Proficiency with variance reduction techniques (weight windows, surface read/write, source biasing, CADIS/FW-CADIS)
—Experience with source-term generation, activation, and dose-rate calculations
—Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks
—Excellent written and verbal communication skills
—Startup experience and comfort in fast-paced, iterative environments
