Senior Electrical Engineer - Fuel Recycling
About this role
Lead the design and deployment of electrical systems for Oklo's first-of-a-kind advanced nuclear fuel recycling facility, owning the full lifecycle from concept through commissioning. You'll drive facility power distribution, electrical infrastructure, and integration with process control systems in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- —Lead design and implementation of facility electrical systems from concept through commissioning
- —Design and specify high-, medium-, and low-voltage power distribution systems
- —Define system architecture, including redundancy, backup power, and safety strategies
- —Perform and review power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, coordination)
- —Generate and review electrical documentation (single-line diagrams, load lists, specifications, cable schedules)
- —Lead integration with control systems (PLC/DCS/HMI)
- —Develop grounding, bonding, and lightning protection strategies
- —Support procurement, installation, and commissioning activities
- —Collaborate on facility layout, constructability, and maintainability
- —Generate technical documentation supporting regulatory and licensing efforts
- —Serve as the electrical technical lead across lifecycle stages
Qualifications
- —Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- —10+ years of experience designing and deploying industrial or facility-scale electrical systems
- —Demonstrated ownership of electrical system design through multiple project phases (concept through commissioning)
Desired
- —Experience in nuclear, fuel cycle, or similarly regulated industrial environments
- —Deep experience in power systems design (switchgear, transformers, protection systems)
- —Expertise in power system analysis (load flow, short circuit, coordination studies)
- —Experience integrating electrical and controls systems (PLC/DCS/HMI)
- —Commissioning and startup experience in complex facilities
Location
Hybrid with headquarters in Santa Clara, CA; requires travel to Santa Clara twice quarterly; first two weeks of onboarding in-person
