Reactor Engineer - Vogtle 1&2
About this role
Reactor Engineer supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Vogtle Units 1&2 (two operating Westinghouse pressurized water reactors). Core responsibilities include reactor core monitoring, special nuclear material (SNM) accountability, fuel operations, technical specification surveillances, and emergency response support in a 24/7 operating environment.
Responsibilities
- —Perform reactor core monitoring, power maneuvers, and reactivity management planning
- —Manage special nuclear material (SNM) accountability, monitoring, storage compliance, and control program implementation
- —Conduct fuel movement, inspection, storage oversight, and fuel-related procedure development per regulatory requirements
- —Execute technical specification surveillances, testing, and core monitoring software/hardware operations
- —Develop reactor engineering procedures and support plant departments in troubleshooting and problem resolution
- —Serve as Reactor Engineer in Technical Support Center during emergency response
- —Support special projects related to plant and fuel improvements
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Engineering from ABET-accredited institution or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- —Knowledge of nuclear and thermal-hydraulic engineering analyses, nuclear fuel UFSAR, and Technical Specifications
- —Knowledge of site procedures for fuel-related operational support and MS Office proficiency
- —High-level written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills
- —Must meet NRC background screening and Fitness for Duty requirements for unescorted access
- —Must complete ~5-week Engineering Orientation and Reactor Engineer qualification program
- —Willingness to travel within Southern Nuclear fleet for mentoring during qualification
Desired
- —Nuclear Engineering degree
- —Previous qualification as a Reactor Engineer at an operating facility
- —Prior nuclear power plant operational experience
- —Experience with Westinghouse reactor methods and analyses
- —Knowledge of industry trends in nuclear fuel operation and new fuel designs
Location
Plant Vogtle Units 1&2, Waynesboro, GA. 24/7 operations environment with on-call duty approximately one week per five-week cycle; periodic shift work occasionally required.
