Mid-level to Principal-level Reactor Engineer at AEP supporting nuclear reactor operations, core management, and fuel performance. This role focuses on reactor physics testing, reactivity planning, radiochemistry analysis, and procedure development to ensure safe and efficient plant operation. Position includes control room support, fuel performance monitoring, and technical leadership depending on level.

Responsibilities

—Monitor reactor core operation and perform applicable testing, including flux mapping, start-up physics testing, and power ascension testing
—Develop reactivity plans for power maneuvers
—Assist with the performance of fuel inspections
—Provide control room support during significant power changes
—Perform radiochemistry analysis as part of fuel performance monitoring
—Assist with Special Nuclear Material (SNM) accountability
—Prepare and review procedures associated with reactor core operation and nuclear fuel management
—Coordinate work activities within the work group and provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
—Develop technical reports and analyses; present findings clearly and effectively
—Identify problems and initiate solutions; recommend process enhancements
—Apply analytical techniques to solve diverse engineering problems and complete extensive analysis

Qualifications

—Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
—2+ years of related engineering experience (mid-level), 4+ years (senior level), or 8+ years (principal level)
—Knowledge of nuclear reactor physics, fuel performance, and core management
—Proficiency with analytical techniques and engineering problem-solving
—Ability to understand interrelationship between systems and equipment

Desired

—Master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
—Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico (required for Principal level)
—Experience with radiochemistry analysis and fuel inspections
—Leadership and team coordination experience
—Familiarity with utility regulation and financing
