Reactor Core Thermal Fluids Engineer
About this role
Oklo is seeking a Reactor Core Thermal Fluids Engineer to join the Core Thermal-Hydraulics team. You will analyze fluid flow and heat transfer within advanced reactor cores, developing and validating computational methods for modeling coolant behavior across steady-state and transient conditions. This role combines first-principles thermal-hydraulic analysis with modern simulation tools including subchannel codes, systems codes, and CFD.
Responsibilities
- —Model core thermal-hydraulic behavior using industry-standard tools including subchannel codes (DASSH, MOOSE-Subchannel, COBRA-TF), systems codes (SAS4A/SASSYS-1, RELAP), flow network models, and 3-D computational fluid dynamics
- —Develop and document methods to analyze core thermal-hydraulic behavior under steady-state and transient conditions
- —Perform automation, verification, and validation of modeling and simulation tools in support of regulatory and design analyses
- —Collaborate cross-functionally with design teams to define thermal-hydraulic requirements and provide technical feedback on core designs
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field
- —Proficiency with thermal-hydraulics analysis methods and first-principles heat transfer/fluid flow modeling
- —Experience with low- and intermediate-fidelity models (porous body, correlation-based approaches) for heat transfer and fluid flow
- —Experience with numerical methods and software development for thermal-fluids problems
- —Demonstrated ability to write clear technical documentation
- —Experience with data processing, pre/post-processing, and scripting
Desired
- —Proficiency in Python
- —Demonstrated success in qualification and validation of nuclear analyses
- —Experience with CI/CD computing environments
- —Experience with reactor systems codes (RELAP or equivalent)
- —Experience with subchannel analysis codes (COBRA-TF or equivalent)
- —Experience with high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics analysis
Location
Remote role based; required travel to Santa Clara, CA headquarters twice per quarter plus travel to other sites as needed. First two weeks of onboarding must be completed in-person at headquarters.
