About this role

Radiation Protection Technician supporting health physics operations at D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant. Responsibilities include radiological surveys, contamination analysis, radiation monitoring equipment maintenance, sample counting (alpha, beta, gamma spectrometry), and ALARA compliance support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic and special radiation, contamination, and airborne surveys per standardized procedures
  • Perform alpha and beta counting, gamma spectrometry, and analysis of plant and environmental samples
  • Operate and maintain radiation monitoring and analytical equipment; perform calibration checks and calibration assistance
  • Analyze contamination control needs, direct appropriate protective measures, and instruct others in health physics precautions and equipment use
  • Perform engineering calculations for test results and prepare inspection/maintenance reports
  • Assist with ALARA-directed shielding installation and removal
  • Inspect turbines, pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, and other equipment; report irregularities and abnormal conditions

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; at least 2 years' experience as a Radiation Protection Technician Junior; successful completion of Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test; physical abilities assessment completion; permanent residence within 45-minute safe drive time to D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant; knowledge of ANSI N18.1-1971 and ANSI/ANS-3.1-1993 standards.
