About this role

Senior Project Manager at AEP responsible for managing intermediate to complex projects within a matrix environment, including work at nuclear generation facilities. Lead project planning, execution, and closure while managing budgets, schedules, and stakeholder relationships across internal teams, contractors, and vendors. Mentor junior project managers and drive continuous improvement in project delivery and safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise assigned project activities using Waterfall and Agile project management principles
  • Manage, develop, review and coordinate project/outage plans, schedules, and budgets; manage cost and timely reallocation of funding
  • Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on Zero Harm
  • Effectively communicate project details and status updates; lead planning meetings and stakeholder presentations
  • Develop and actively manage working relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, internal and external customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and training to improve design, systems, procedures, processes, schedules, and costs
  • Mentor other project managers and direct and supervise sub-team project managers as assigned
  • Develop and manage procurement plans; manage contracts for outside services including RFPs, vendor evaluation, negotiations, and performance oversight
  • Conduct and supervise project closeout processes, including analysis of project success and benefit realization
  • Develop understanding of AEP project management organizational standards and manage projects to those standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years qualified experience; OR 2-year associate's degree in same disciplines with 7 years qualified experience; OR High School Diploma/GED with 9 years qualified experience
  • 2 years of experience as a Project Manager (Grade 7) or demonstrated competencies, knowledge and skillset through achieved results
  • Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, or comparable experience in a competitive production environment
  • Demonstrated preparedness for journey level PM knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
  • Valid state driver's license

Desired

  • Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems
  • PMP certification
  • Effective leadership, team building, and meeting management skills
  • Economic analysis and business acumen with emphasis on cost, schedule, and risk management
  • Knowledge of Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction and Startup procedures and processes
  • Proficiency with project management tools and techniques
  • Strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment, and prioritization skills
