Project Manager (Principal - Staff - Staff Sr.) | NUCLEAR DEVELOPMENT
About this role
Lead nuclear energy development projects from site identification through commissioning at AEP's Nuclear Development organization. This Principal/Staff/Staff Sr. role manages intermediate to complex projects or program portfolios in a matrix environment, requiring expert-level project management, stakeholder communication, and team leadership. Responsibilities span project planning, budget management, vendor oversight, regulatory representation, and team mentorship across nuclear development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- —Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise assigned project and outage work activities with proficiency across all aspects
- —Skillfully apply project management principles and techniques (Waterfall, Agile) for project execution
- —Support and hold employees and contractors accountable to AEP safety policies, maintaining "Zero Harm" commitment
- —Supervise, develop, and coordinate project/outage plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staffing
- —Manage costs effectively and reallocate funding as needed; communicate project details and status updates
- —Lead planning meetings and complex stakeholder presentations with detailed written reporting
- —Develop and manage effective working relationships with project teams, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers
- —Foster teamwork and actively monitor customer satisfaction
- —Provide detailed guidance, instruction, and training to improve design, systems, procedures, and processes
- —Challenge project work at an informed, high level and ensure maximum customer satisfaction
- —Perform supervision duties and mentor direct reports and assistant project managers
- —Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors, and regulators as assigned
- —Develop and manage procurement plans; manage vendor contracts including RFPs, bid evaluation, negotiation, and performance oversight
- —Manage project closeout processes and analyze project success against objectives and benefits realization
- —Align organization with AEP project management governance standards and committee guidance
- —Manage programs as assigned
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with 7+ years qualified experience; OR Associate's degree in same field with 9+ years qualified experience; OR High School Diploma/GED with 11+ years qualified experience
- —Qualified experience in project management, major construction, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, or comparable work in competitive production environment
- —Demonstrated successful project management duties, business acumen, and responsibility for all key PM knowledge areas
- —Demonstrated preparedness in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
- —PMP certification required for Staff and Staff Sr. grades (unless waived by SVP or OPCO President)
- —Valid state driver's license
Desired
- —2+ years experience as Project Manager Senior (Grade 8)
- —Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, and/or IT systems
- —PMP certification (preferred for Principal grade)
Location
Onsite in Columbus, OH at AEP Corporate Headquarters daily unless traveling for work; relocation assistance provided if needed.
