About this role
Process Engineer to design, develop, prototype, and validate chemical separation subsystems for advanced nuclear fuel recycling, including pyroprocessing, off-gas separation, and waste immobilization. Work cross-functionally with facility design, equipment, and licensing teams at Oklo, an advanced fission startup developing closed-loop fuel recycling technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop chemical separation subsystems and process flow sheets that meet facility and regulatory requirements
- Define system and unit process requirements, validation methodologies, performance criteria, and test protocols
- Establish prototyping equipment and deploy test systems to refine system design and operation
- Complete equipment sizing, specifications, and instrument process data specifications using process simulation tools (AspenTech, ChemCAD, Promax, etc.)
- Develop and maintain process and instrumentation (P&ID) diagrams and heat/material balances
- Generate technical documentation for fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and regulatory filings
- Serve as technical lead through multiple lifecycle stages from pilot to industrial scale deployment
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with AspenTech, ChemCAD, Promax, automation tools, Excel, or Python
- Pilot plant deployment and scale-up experience (demonstration to industrial scale at brownfield/greenfield sites)
- Commercial or government nuclear industry experience
Location, schedule, and travel
Remote with required travel to Santa Clara, CA headquarters twice per quarter. First two weeks of onboarding must be completed in-person at headquarters.
