About this role

Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer/Analyst role within Southern Nuclear's Risk-Informed Engineering department. Develop, maintain, and apply PRA models to support risk-informed decision-making across nuclear operations at facilities in Alabama and Georgia. Responsibilities include PRA model development for Maintenance Rule, MSPI, Configuration Risk Management, 50.69 Categorization, RI-ISI, RI-ILT, and license basis changes under RG 1.174, 1.177, and 1.200.

Responsibilities

  • Develop calculations and inputs for risk applications including Maintenance Rule, MSPI, Configuration Risk Management, Risk-Informed Completion Time Program, Surveillance Frequency Control Program, 50.69 Categorization, RI-ILT, RI-ISI, and other licensing basis changes under RG 1.174, 1.177, and 1.200
  • Review PRA inputs such as design changes, emergency operating procedure updates, and licensing basis changes to assess impact on PRA models
  • Support Work Management and Operations with assessing planned and emergent maintenance risk and interpretation of results
  • Perform PRA model update efforts to maintain quality per RG 1.200 for internal events, fire, internal flooding, seismic, and external hazards across BWR, PWR, and Advanced Passive PWR designs
  • Ensure compliance with risk-informed regulatory requirements, policies, and standards
  • Interface with NRC regulators during Reactor Oversight Process and License Basis change reviews
  • Engage with industry subject matter experts, vendors, and utility peers to build relationships and implement best practices
  • Manage projects using Project Management principles
  • Develop and deliver written and oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform special studies and engineering tasks using PRA principles
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and significance determination process support
  • Travel to plant sites and industry events in support of SNC objectives
  • Provide after-hours plant support availability for SNC Emergency Response Organization

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or PE license, or Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science

Desired

Two years of professional work experience in commercial nuclear power or other large, industrial-scale, heavily regulated environments; Direct PRA work experience; Experience with procurement of services (scoping, request for proposal/quote, purchase requisition and purchase orders); Knowledge of and experience with software suites used in nuclear power (Primavera, eSOMS, Maximo, Documentum); Strong ownership, proactive approach, and good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; Commitment to continuous improvement

Location

Corporate headquarters in Birmingham, AL; up to 25% travel to plant sites and industry events; after-hours availability required for emergency support
