Principal Project Controls - Cost
About this role
Lead cost management and financial controls across Westinghouse's portfolio of complex nuclear capital projects. This Principal Project Controls Specialist role requires expertise in cost management processes, variance analysis, and financial forecasting across diverse project delivery models, with responsibility for cost reporting to senior leadership and cross-functional coordination with project managers, estimators, schedulers, and financial analysts.
Responsibilities
- —Implement project cost control practices during all project phases across different delivery models, serving as primary cost lead on major projects, providing oversight for mid-sized projects, or managing portfolios of smaller projects
- —Oversee cost control systems and reporting including variance analysis and forecasting for presentation across organizational levels from task to senior leadership
- —Ensure accuracy and timeliness of cost reporting and maintain an updated, risk-informed financial picture of projects
- —Work with project managers, estimators, schedulers, risk analysts, technical leads, and financial analysts to provide financial insights and coordinate resource allocation
- —Manage cost, schedule, and budget for assigned deliverables such as Performance and Cost Control Plans as task-level project manager
- —Plan and perform assessments of project controls processes to identify issues and promote continuous improvement
- —Develop work instructions, templates, checklists, and desktop guides to ensure reproducible work products
- —Contribute to functional strategy development and programmatic governance maintenance
- —Participate in continuous improvement projects by documenting issues, observations, and lessons learned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Data Science) or equivalent experience; 8+ years' experience in project management, project controls, or cost engineering; familiarity with project controls systems such as Primavera P6 and EVMS platforms; experience working with large datasets and integrating data across systems; ability to write code (e.g., Python, VBA, SQL); advanced proficiency in Excel including modeling, pivot tables, and complex formulas; ability to develop structured, scalable work processes
