Required qualifications
- Minimum 12 years of experience in nuclear facility design or operations in engineering fields such as plant or systems engineering, design engineering, operations engineering, reactor engineering, or field engineering
- BS degree in nuclear, mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional plant design integration
- Working understanding of NRC or DOE nuclear regulations
- Ability to clearly communicate complex plant architecture and design concepts
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
- Ability to work in a FOAK (first-of-a-kind) conceptual design environment requiring strong engineering judgment
About this role
Lead the Plant Design Integration Products team at TerraPower, an advanced nuclear technology company developing next-generation reactors and medical isotopes. You'll drive plant architecture development for the Natrium sodium-cooled fast reactor design, resolve complex technical issues across disciplines, and ensure alignment with the NRC's Licensing Modernization Process (LMP). This role requires translating multi-disciplinary engineering work into integrated plant-level design deliverables and regulatory documentation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with geographically diverse teams and partner organizations to develop integrated nuclear island and plant-level design deliverables
- Lead development and communication of plant architecture including system interactions, functional allocations, interfaces, and design/analysis assumptions
- Lead plant-level efforts to resolve complex technical issues affecting multiple aspects of the Natrium design
- Serve as subject matter expert in plant-level design or architecture
- Interpret, explain, and maintain plant-level design documents including design basis documents, functional requirements, and plant design specifications
- Ensure alignment of plant architecture and design documentation with the Licensing Modernization Process (LMP) including risk-informed categorization and defense-in-depth evaluations
- Develop plant-level integration deliverables such as plans, strategies, design basis documents, and plant design specifications in collaboration with engineering, licensing, safety analysis, and PRA teams
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the Plant Design Products team and support development of integration engineering capabilities
- Facilitate technical integration reviews, configuration discussions, and architecture strategy sessions across multiple disciplines
Preferred qualifications
- Prior NRC interaction experience
- Experience with Licensing Modernization Process (LMP) or similar risk-informed licensing approaches
Location, schedule, and travel
0–10% travel required; extended sitting with minimal physical exertion; onsite standard working environment, >8 hours/day
