- OR: Qualified Control Room Operator and TPE evaluator at UUSA for at least 1 year
- CAA Access and L-level security clearance
About this role
Operator III monitors, controls, and operates uranium enrichment equipment and production systems at Urenco USA's facility in Eunice, NM—the only large-scale commercial uranium enrichment facility in North America. Responsibilities include achieving Control Room Operator qualifications, operating enrichment process and utility systems, handling Uranium Hexafluoride cylinders, performing blending and sampling operations, training Operators in Training, and ensuring compliance with nuclear material control and fire protection programs while protecting public and employee health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Achieve and maintain qualifications as an enrichment plant Operator, up to and including Control Room Operator
- Create and review new procedures and revisions to approved procedures
- Provide on-the-job training (OJT) to Operators in Training according to approved procedures and standards
- Notify Radiation Protection and Chemistry personnel of changes in plant or process conditions affecting radiological or chemical conditions or releases
- Perform assigned duties of the Fundamental Nuclear Material Control Plan (FNMCP)
- Demonstrate decision-making and command and control skills to operate enrichment plant systems and troubleshoot components during off-normal and emergency conditions
- Ensure Fire Protection Program requirements are met and minimize transient combustibles
- Perform plant Incipient Fire Brigade duties and participate in fire training and drills
- Operate enrichment process and plant utility systems and equipment
- Perform cylinder handling activities, including connecting and disconnecting Uranium Hexafluoride cylinders at Feed, Product, and Tails stations
- Perform Uranium Hexafluoride blending and sampling operations
- Obtain Uranium Hexafluoride samples
- Conduct thorough operator rounds and maintain log keeping
- Proficiently use all plant procedures and recognize when to involve supervision if unclear or inadequate
- Provide timely and accurate problem reports for equipment problems and human errors
- Perform routine housekeeping activities and spill clean-ups
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline
- 10 years of related work experience at an operating nuclear facility performing a related role (e.g., operator, maintenance, or RP) OR Qualified Control Room Operator and TPE evaluator at UUSA for 3 years
- U.S. Nuclear Navy Qualified Operator or Non-Licensed Nuclear Power Plant Operator
- U.S. Nuclear Navy Qualified Watch Supervisor
- NRC Licensed Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator
Location, schedule, and travel
Eunice, NM; rotating 12-hour shifts (4 days on, 5 days off) including days, nights, weekends, and some holidays; up to 10% travel; on-call 24/7 during designated Emergency Response Organization duty weeks
