Required qualifications
- Associate's degree in science or engineering
- 4+ years of commercial nuclear power plant operator training experience
- 2+ years of experience as a simulator instructor
- Current or former SRO/RO license holder, or 4+ years of SRO-certification experience
- Mastery of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of licensed operator training programs
- Working knowledge of plant simulation software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- High degree of integrity and ability to adapt to emergent changes in plant design, procedures, and schedules
About this role
TerraPower seeks an Operations Training Instructor to develop and execute comprehensive training programs for the Natrium Demonstration Project, a next-generation reactor facility. You will establish licensed and non-licensed operator curricula compliant with NRC regulations and INPO accreditation standards, working across operations, emergency response, and regulatory partners. This role includes a clear pathway to Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) candidacy.
Responsibilities
- Develop operator training processes, programs, and procedures ensuring compliance with NRC regulations, INPO accreditation criteria, and company standards using Systematic-Approach-to-Training methodology
- Execute strategy for training program initial accreditation and prepare examination materials for classroom, laboratory, OJT, and simulator environments
- Revise training programs to maintain accuracy based on plant design changes, procedure modifications, and process updates; incorporate INPO Significant Operating Experience Reports, NRC Circulars, Bulletins, and Information Notices
- Coordinate with operations management, emergency response organization, and external regulators on training development and improvement
- Participate in Training Curriculum Review Committee and NRC/INPO audits; prepare audit responses and maintain auditable training records
- Develop processes for training performance evaluations and individualized training programs; supervise training record collection and maintenance
- Assist Operations Training Manager with department goals and budget estimates
