Required qualifications
- Associate's degree in Nursing
- Two years of work experience as Occupational Health Nurse OR two years of hospital experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice
- Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification
- Knowledge of ADA, FMLA, OSHA, and Workers' Compensation laws
- Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and ability to handle confidential medical information
- Proficiency with computers, email, MS Word, MS Excel, and Occupational Health data programs
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong people skills, written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail
About this role
Occupational Health Nurse at Duke Energy's Plainfield, IN nuclear facility. Provide first aid case management, conduct NRC and OSHA regulatory compliance physicals, manage employee medical files, and deliver occupational health services. Role requires independent clinical judgment, regulatory knowledge, and on-call availability including emergency storm duty.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations for NRC, OSHA, and regulatory compliance per Corporate Medical Director directives
- Assess, plan, and deliver first aid care to employees with focus on preventing OSHA recordable events
- Document medical examinations, tests, consultations, and maintain confidential employee medical files
- Determine mandated physical types and schedule appropriate exams and medical tests
- Evaluate employee medical conditions and ability to perform job functions; recommend medical clearance per CMD guidelines
- Conduct audits of medical records to ensure NRC compliance
- Provide medical review on Return to Work forms for management
- Assess work-related injuries and illnesses; determine appropriate treatment level (first aid, BLS, or referral)
- Alert Duke Energy Workers' Compensation Coordinator of off-site referrals
- Serve as resource for employee personal health issues and refer to external health/medical agencies
- Provide health education through articles, presentations, and safety meetings
- Perform ergonomic evaluations and support corporate wellness programs
- Take on-call and after-hours calls for work-related injuries and occupational health questions
- Travel as needed including overnight emergency deployments and storm duty
- Provide medical support for special events and training
- Function independently within scope of OHN position with minimal supervision
