About this role
Occupational Health Nurse at Duke Energy nuclear facilities providing first aid case management, regulatory compliance physicals, and occupational health services. This role requires independent decision-making, strong communication, and specialized knowledge of NRC and OSHA regulations to prevent workplace injuries, maintain employee health and safety, and ensure regulatory compliance at nuclear power plants.
Responsibilities
- —Perform physical examinations for NRC, OSHA, and regulatory compliance; determine type of mandated physicals required
- —Assess injuries and illnesses to determine appropriate treatment (first aid, basic life support, treatment or referral)
- —Provide first aid care during normal working hours and on-call after-hours to prevent escalation to OSHA recordable events
- —Document all medical examinations, tests, consultations, evaluations, and work-related events; maintain confidential employee medical files in compliance with HIPAA and state/federal law
- —Make appropriate referrals for employees not medically cleared; obtain physician concurrence on medical clearances as required
- —Schedule physical exams and medical tests to meet business needs and regulatory due dates
- —Alert Duke Energy WC Coordinator, vendor management, and off-site medical facilities of employee injuries as appropriate
- —Function as resource to employees for personal health issues and concerns; refer to external health agencies and EAP as needed
- —Provide medical review on Return to Work forms for management
- —Conduct health education through written articles, PowerPoint presentations, and active participation in safety meetings
- —Perform hands-on ergonomic evaluations and support corporate wellness programs
- —Travel as needed to assess employees in assigned Duke Energy locations; willing to travel overnight for emergency deployments (storm duty)
- —Provide medical support for special events and training
Qualifications
- —Associate's degree in Nursing
- —Two years of work experience as Occupational Health Nurse OR two years hospital experience
- —Valid Registered Nurse license in state of practice
- —Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification
- —Knowledge of ADA, FMLA, OSHA, and Workers' Compensation laws with ability to make sound medical decisions
- —Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and ability to handle confidential medical information appropriately
- —Proficiency with computers, email, MS Word, MS Excel, and Occupational Health data programs
- —Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- —Excellent people skills and high level of attention to detail
Location
On-call after-hours and willing to travel overnight for emergency deployments; travel as needed to support assigned Duke Energy nuclear facility locations.
