Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician I or Nuclear Turbine Maintenance Technician II - Harris Nuclear Plant
About this role
Nuclear turbine maintenance technician responsible for high-quality preventive and corrective maintenance on nuclear plant equipment, including disassembly/reassembly of large steam turbines, electrical generators, and related equipment at Harris Nuclear Plant (Duke Energy). Requires broad mechanical knowledge, safety compliance, and ability to support fleet-wide maintenance outages.
Responsibilities
- —Perform disassembly and reassembly of large steam turbines, electrical generators, and plant equipment
- —Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to maintain optimum equipment reliability
- —Execute rigging and crane operation activities (including NUREG-0612 lifts)
- —Support Duke Nuclear Fleet maintenance outages and maintenance activities
- —Maintain technical documentation and records
- —Demonstrate proficiency in following safety processes, administrative procedures, and technical procedures
Qualifications
- —High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- —Valid driver's license
- —Proven mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- —Ability to successfully pass the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) test
- —Ability to gain and maintain nuclear access
- —Ability to pass Respirator Clearance/SCBA requirements
- —Ability to pass Nuclear Pre-Access Drug Screen
- —Ability to lift 50 pounds
- —Ability to work various shifts, extended hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays
- —Basic technical writing and computer skills
- —For Technician II: 1.5 years of directly related experience
Desired
- —Two-year technical school degree or equivalent experience/training (e.g., military)
- —Prior experience in rigging and lifting
- —ACAD Accredited Program Qualification to operate Cab Operated Polar or Gantry Cranes for NUREG-0612 lifts
- —CNC machining skills and experience
- —Basic understanding of power tool operation and precision tool usage
- —Demonstrated diagnostic and analytical skills
- —Advanced computer skills
- —Prior nuclear power plant experience
- —Demonstrated leadership ability
Location
Harris Nuclear Plant, North Carolina. Various shifts including extended hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays; on-call support; 5–15% travel. Working in extreme temperatures, at elevated heights, in tight spaces; continuous physical exertion including standing, climbing, crawling, and kneeling. Relocation assistance provided.
