Required qualifications
High school diploma or GED; 21+ years old; valid driver's license; ability to lawfully possess firearms; pass drug/alcohol screening, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and physical fitness test; obtain and maintain NRC unescorted access authorization; complete Plant Access, Safeguards, and Respiratory Protection training; pass annual fitness agility test, yearly medical qualification, and periodic firearm testing; subject to random alcohol/drug testing and periodic background/credit screening; provide 10-year work history with no gaps.
About this role
Armed, uniformed security professional responsible for protecting special nuclear material from theft and preventing radiological sabotage at a nuclear facility. Role requires demonstrated physical fitness, tactical armed response capabilities, and NRC-mandated security clearance and training.
Responsibilities
- Physically inspect buildings and rooms to ensure security and proper order
- Perform tactical armed responder duties and alarm assessment
- Act as surveillance sentry and vital door guard at designated access points
- Operate security reader and communication equipment
- Conduct armed escort and response duties as needed
- Execute vehicle, personnel, and material searches for detection of firearms, explosives, and incendiary devices
- Maintain physical training qualifications to retain unescorted access
- Work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays with overtime as required
Preferred qualifications
Military or security-related work experience; criminal justice or law enforcement degree or work experience.
Location, schedule, and travel
On-site at nuclear facility; 12-hour rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays); mandatory armed carry and stringent fitness requirements.
