Nuclear Engineer III / Nuclear Senior Engineer - Air Operated Valve Engineer (Brunswick Nuclear Plant)

Nuclear Engineer III or Senior Nuclear Engineer specializing in Air Operated Valves (AOVs) at Duke Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Plant. This role focuses on solving complex engineering problems with increasing independence, providing technical expertise in system design, operation, and maintenance for safety-critical valve systems in nuclear power applications.
Responsibilities
- —Provide engineering and technical expertise in identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity
- —Contribute to team decision-making through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
- —Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to engineering analysis
- —Conduct engineering studies and manage routine engineering projects with minimal oversight, independently managing project schedules and interfaces
- —Design, operate, and maintain AOV systems and related equipment with moderate impact on existing systems
- —Develop positive working relationships and demonstrate effective oral and written communication
- —Maintain accurate records and files per nuclear regulatory standards
- —Support company goals and represent the company professionally
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (or Master's degree in Engineering may substitute)
- —4–6 years of engineering experience (Nuclear Engineer III) or minimum 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration (Senior Nuclear Engineer)
- —Minimum 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
Desired
- —Air Operated Valve (AOV) design, maintenance, or troubleshooting experience
- —Heat Exchanger experience
- —Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
- —Professional Engineer (PE) Certification
- —Experience in the utility industry or similar regulated environment
- —Demonstrated application of engineering theories and principles to nuclear systems
- —Proficiency in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, and presenting recommendations
Location
Hybrid (remote and onsite at Brunswick Nuclear Plant after onboarding); must live within reasonable commute to facility. Desk and field work, including industrial environmental conditions. 5–15% travel required.
