Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering (ABET-accredited) or Master's degree in engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to nuclear facility (General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance, Fitness for Duty)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to research engineering issues, evaluate alternatives, and make sound technical recommendations
- Team collaboration skills
- Engineer II level: minimum 2 years related nuclear or power industry work experience
About this role
Nuclear Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Design Engineer for Duke Energy's Robinson Nuclear Plant in Hartsville, SC. This position (fillable at Engineer I or Engineer II level based on experience) focuses on electrical and digital control system design, including specifications, design packages, and NRC-compliant cyber security integration for reactor instrumentation and safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for electrical and I&C projects, including digital and software-focused control systems
- Develop design packages, conceptual designs, and specifications for bidding and implementation
- Evaluate design alternatives, conduct design package reviews, and develop setpoints
- Prepare design documentation (calculations, drawings, technical specifications) and coordinate with vendors and A/E firms
- Provide technical support during design implementation and serve as single point of contact for assigned projects
- Ensure NRC cyber security compliance in all digital designs
- Qualify as a Responsible Engineer for modifications and exercise independent technical judgment once qualified
- Support emergency response and storm response operations as assigned
Preferred qualifications
- Current qualification as a Modification Engineer under an INPO-accredited program
- Knowledge of Nuclear Asset Suite for design and work order development
- Familiarity with NRC cyber security regulations (10 CFR Part 73.54)
- Prior qualification credentials and product demonstrations from other utilities
Location, schedule, and travel
Robinson Nuclear Plant, Hartsville, SC. Position requires unescorted access to secure nuclear facility areas and availability for emergency/storm response support.
