Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (or Master's degree in Engineering)
- For Engineer I: 0–2 years of engineering experience
- For Engineer II: 2–4 years of engineering experience with minimum 1 year nuclear experience
- Understanding of basic engineering and testing theories and principles
- Ability to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
About this role
Nuclear Engineer I or II supporting Duke Energy's nuclear sites through electrical procurement engineering. Responsibilities include developing equivalency evaluations, commercial grade dedication packages, safety classification analysis, and technical evaluations to maintain plant performance and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Support generation of engineering equivalency evaluations and commercial grade dedication packages to address site-related maintenance issues
- Provide cost-effective engineering and testing solutions to improve plant performance and maintain safety margins by meeting design requirements
- Coordinate supporting activities, resolve equipment non-conformances, and ensure quality of procurement engineering documents
- Evaluate and select cost-effective alternatives for procurement consistent with schedules and regulatory requirements
- Maintain understanding of engineering principles relating to item functionality, testing requirements, and test result interpretation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (ASME, ANSI, ASTM, IEEE, CFR, EPRI, NEI, NUREG)
- Provide engineering and technical expertise in identification, analysis, testing, and resolution of routine problems
- Prepare thorough technical reports, test reports, correspondence, and documentation for engineering and dedication work
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Experience in the nuclear utility industry
- Post-Bachelor's degree (Master's or professional school equivalent)
- Previous on-the-job nuclear Procurement Engineering and/or QA Testing experience (Environmental Qualification, Seismic Qualification/Testing/Analysis, Functional Testing, Dedication Testing)
- Working knowledge of power plant operations, including mechanical and electrical equipment
- Working experience with Nuclear Asset Suite (Portal J, Passport, Asset Suite)
- Successfully completed EPRI Procurement Training Course for Plant Engineering or equivalent
- NAS Work Control and CAP experience
- Previous Work Management experience
Location, schedule, and travel
McGuire Nuclear Station (preferred); options available at Catawba Nuclear Station and Oconee Nuclear Station. Onsite position supporting all Duke Energy nuclear sites.
