Nuclear Civil Engineer III / Sr. Nuclear Civil Engineer at Duke Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Plant. This advancing-level position involves solving complex civil and structural engineering problems with limited supervision to support plant operations, maintenance coordination, and engineering projects. You will work independently on high-impact nuclear facility work, including structural integrity assessments, operability determinations, and emergency response support.
Responsibilities
- —Develop civil/structural engineering solutions for plant activities (emergent and scheduled), including engineering change packages and independent peer reviews
- —Identify, evaluate, and advocate for resolution of structural items to ensure safe and reliable plant operation
- —Serve as primary engineering contact with Maintenance organization for civil-related items affecting online schedule, including lifting/rigging evaluations, safe load paths, and scaffold inspections
- —Perform project management for emergent work via Emergent Issue teams and develop repair strategies
- —Provide technical support for shop maintenance and resolve complex technical questions affecting maintenance procedures
- —Prepare Operability Determination Supporting Basis documentation for Operations on civil-related equipment or structural concerns
- —Conduct engineering studies and complete routine and complex engineering projects with minimal oversight
- —Prepare technical reports, calculations, and documentation for well-defined and complex problems
- —Manage project schedules and interfaces independently
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program (or Master's degree in Engineering)
- —Minimum 4 years of engineering experience (Nuclear Engineer III level) OR minimum 6 years of engineering experience OR minimum 5 years with state registration as a Professional Engineer (Sr. Nuclear Engineer level)
- —Must qualify for and meet requirements for nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
- —Ability to work safely in industrial environment and wear required personal protective equipment
Desired
- —BS in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program
- —Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles
- —Proficiency in researching engineering/design issues, evaluating alternatives, and presenting recommendations
- —Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
- —Project management experience
- —Experience in utility industry
- —Advanced application of industry Codes and Standards (ASME B31.1, ASME Section III)
- —Pipe stress analysis experience (ASME B31.1 and ASME Section III)
- —Experience with STAAD, Mathcad, GT Strudl Base Plate, or similar software
Location
On-site at Brunswick Nuclear Plant. Industrial environment with occasional nights, weekends, and extended workdays. May include Emergency Response Organization callouts and on-call duty rotation. Must be Fit for Duty. Typical office environment with flexibility to support plant operations.
