Required qualifications

  • B.S. in Nuclear Engineering with 5–20 years' experience, OR M.S. in Nuclear Engineering with 3–15 years' experience, OR Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering with 2–10 years' experience
  • Knowledge of basic nuclear reactor design concepts
  • Experience in core design and analysis: fuel management optimization, reactivity coefficients, shielding, activation, control rod worth, and uncertainty analysis
  • Strong computational expertise and working knowledge of nuclear and general numerical methods (PDEs, dynamics, deterministic/stochastic particle transport, isotopic depletion, perturbation theory, nuclear data, kinetics)
  • Experience with nuclear engineering software (MCNP, DIF3D, MC2, PARTISN, RELAP, SCALE, PARCS, APA, CASMO/SIMULATE, DRAGON)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within published regulatory guidelines for nuclear reactor design
  • High degree of integrity, trustworthiness, and strong teamwork capability

About this role

TerraPower seeks a Nuclear Analysis Engineer to support advanced reactor core design and analysis activities. You'll perform core design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including fuel management optimization, power distribution calculations, reactivity coefficients, control rod worth, and sensitivity/uncertainty studies. You'll evaluate modeling assumptions, develop analysis methods, and contribute to complex reactor design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform core design and analysis activities including calculation and optimization of fuel management, power distributions, reactivity coefficients, control rod worth, shutdown margin, and sensitivity/uncertainty studies
  • Design and execute sensitivity studies to understand effects and validity of modeling assumptions (meshing, physics coupling, transport options, cross section preparation, fission product treatment, spatial kinetics)
  • Help develop corrected methods based on sensitivity study results
  • Design and analyze new systems for solving complex reactor design problems
  • Establish and maintain documentation of analysis results and nuclear design solutions
  • Maintain and enhance software by implementing enhancement requests and bug fixes with the team

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in transient analysis, thermal hydraulics, or fuel performance
  • Fast reactor experience or Core Operating Limits Report/Tech Specs experience
  • Professional-quality software development capability for nuclear applications
  • Strong programming skills in any language
  • Experience working in NQA-1 (Nuclear Quality Assurance) environments
