Mechanical System Engineer (Midlevel - Principal)
About this role
Individual contributor system manager role at a nuclear power plant, serving as the station expert on assigned mechanical systems. You'll proactively manage system performance to meet safety, production, and cost goals while preventing equipment failures and improving reliability. Primary focus on mechanical system health, preventive maintenance technical basis, Maintenance Rule compliance, and long-range lifecycle planning.
Responsibilities
- —Monitor and trend performance of assigned systems
- —Perform and document system walk downs
- —Develop comprehensive System Health Reports and manage recovery plans for degraded systems
- —Maintain ownership of the Preventive Maintenance Program technical basis
- —Update Maintenance Rule (MRule) database and maintain system/function unavailability records
- —Review and approve MSPI data provided by the MRule Program
- —Participate in long-range planning and lifecycle management
- —Apply advanced engineering knowledge to solve complex problems and complete extensive analyses
- —Coordinate work activities and provide training to lower-level employees
- —Develop cost forecasts for routine projects and improvement requisitions
- —Resolve routine and moderately complex engineering problems
- —Analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 4+ years of related nuclear engineering experience; OR Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 2+ years of related nuclear engineering experience; OR PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- —For Senior level: 6+ years of related engineering experience with Bachelor's degree (ABET-accredited); OR 4+ years with Master's or PhD (ABET-accredited)
- —For Principal level: 8+ years of related engineering experience with Bachelor's degree (ABET-accredited); OR 6+ years with Master's or PhD (ABET-accredited)
- —Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus Master's or PhD from university with ABET-accredited Bachelor's program
Desired
- —Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico
- —Prior knowledge/experience with ventilation systems
- —Prior knowledge/experience with ice condenser systems at nuclear power plants
- —Mechanical or Chemical Engineering background
