Mechanical Analyst Engineer
About this role
Oklo seeks a Mechanical Analyst Engineer to perform structural and mechanical analysis of advanced nuclear reactor components using hand calculations and FEA. You'll evaluate designs across multiple failure modes (stress, creep, fatigue, vibration, thermal), apply nuclear engineering codes (ASME Section III), produce rigorous technical documentation, and drive design decisions alongside cross-functional teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- —Perform mechanical analyses ranging from hand calculations to detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, or COMSOL
- —Evaluate structural performance for stress, creep, fatigue, vibration, temperature limits, and other failure modes
- —Interpret and apply relevant engineering standards and codes (ASME Section III for nuclear, ASCE, AISC) to establish design limits and acceptance criteria
- —Develop clear, technically sound documentation of engineering methodologies, analysis results, and design justifications
- —Summarize mechanical analysis results in written documents and presentation slides, translating complex data into actionable design recommendations
- —Present results to management and stakeholders
- —Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering teams to drive design decisions
- —Plan and execute validation and verification activities, including designing and overseeing physical test programs
- —Contribute to the development and maintenance of in-house analysis methodologies and best practices
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, materials)
- —4+ years of industry experience performing mechanical or structural analysis in energy, aerospace, automotive, defense, industrial machinery, or advanced manufacturing
- —Proven experience in structural analysis using FEA tools (Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL)
- —Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical documentation and reports
- —Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
- —Strong foundation in fundamental mechanics and strength of materials
- —Expertise in dynamics, creep, fatigue, and heat transfer
Desired
- —Master's or PhD in engineering
- —Strong programming skills for automating analysis workflows, preferably Python with good software development practices
- —Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section III Division 1 or 5, Section VIII Division 2, or nuclear-specific code cases)
- —Experience developing and managing product requirements and associated test and verification plans
- —Familiarity with configuration management and version control systems (Git, SVN)
