About this role

Machinist in the Shops Department performing mechanical maintenance on power plant equipment at Constellation nuclear facilities. Responsibilities include disassembly, repair, and reassembly of pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, valves, and balance-of-plant systems. Role requires nuclear plant access, radiation protection qualifications, and ability to work in a nuclear environment with radiation dose exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair work on plant equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, fans, bearings, pipe systems, valves and limit torque operators, including disassembly, part repair or replacement, and assembly using sound technical decisions
  • Demonstrate strong maintenance skills on various pumps, valves, and balance of plant (BOP) equipment using correct tools and equipment such as rigging, forklifts and cranes
  • Execute assigned work packages and interpret power plant prints
  • Maintain nuclear qualifications and Radiation Protection Qualification and training, including respirator qualifications as needed
  • Work on cross-functional teams on major projects and provide technical support to plant operations, maintenance staff and engineering
  • Perform verification checks on maintenance items covered in maintenance technician training
  • Adhere to established maintenance standards and practices while performing assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Participate in continuous improvement culture through training, reinforcing standards, reporting, and mitigating unsafe conditions

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics OR HS Diploma with minimum 12 months of trade/technical experience in Power Plant Technology OR Vocational Technical High School diploma with 6 months of shop experience
  • Successfully complete training requirements and time-in-job requirements including passing the MASS test
  • Ability to obtain unescorted nuclear plant access
  • Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Basic computer skills and good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in power plant environment including climbing, walking long distances, exposure to heat, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise areas, confined spaces, and nuclear power plant environment with radiation dose exposure
  • Ability to work at high elevations on ladders and scaffolds and perform shift work or weekends as required
  • Ability to perform tasks inside radiological controlled areas

Location

Onsite at Constellation nuclear power plant facility. Shift work and weekends required. Up to 20% travel may be required. Work involves exposure to nuclear environment, radiation dose potential, high elevations, confined spaces, and industrial hazards.
